Setting you up online

The IT basics you need to know

Your student ID will be printed on your student ID card (e.g. z1234567).

You use this as your UNSW username with either your zPass or UniPass password to access online resources at UNSW.

Each student is automatically assigned a UNSW email address. You can login to your student email via Microsoft Online using your Username and zPass. For more information, visit the Cloud email service website.

On campus, students with laptops and mobile devices can access the free UniWide wireless service.

Use the checklist below to guide you in setting up your IT essentials.

IT services checklist

  • Visit IDM (Identity Management website)

    Identity Management

    You will be required to update your zPass every 6 months for security reasons.

    The Identity Manager website (IDM) allows you to manage your UniPass and zPass passwords and your UNSW email account attributes.

  • Download "UNSW myIT Mobile" app

    myIT Mobile app provides convenient access to UNSW Australia IT services no matter where you are. 

    Features include:

    • Reset your zPass/UniPass
    • Quickly submit new requests or report issues
    • Easily review existing tickets
    • View maps showing the location of Assistance Counters
    • Browse the UNSW IT Service Catalogue

  • Set up Student Email (Office 365)

    What is Student Email (Office 365)?

    It is an email service for undergraduate, non-research postgraduate students and alumni. Click here to sign in.

  • Access Moodle

    What is Moodle?

    Moodle (Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment) is an open-source learning management system that is being implemented across UNSW. You can find more information about Moodle on student.unsw.edu.au/moodle-support

  • UniWide (free Wi-Fi when you are on campus)

    What is UniWide?

    It is a fast, secure, wireless network connection from a wide range of locations across UNSW's campuses via Wi-Fi-enabled laptop or mobile device.
